No response to overwhelming pressure

On a radiant February day, Sutton Valence Hockey Club's 1st XI showcased their dominance on home turf against Gore Court, delivering a resounding 10-0 triumph. The spirited clash unfolded at the Sutton Valence school pitch, where the home team's superiority was evident from the opening whistle.

In a first half characterised by relentless attacking prowess, Sutton Valence asserted their authority with five clinical goals. The scoring spree commenced with a goalmouth finish by Lewis, setting the tone for Sutton Valence's offensive onslaught. Ali soon followed suit, executing a reverse lift over the keeper with finesse. Stampy, Clayton, and Fred contributed to the onslaught, each finding the back of the net in seamless succession. Despite Gore Court's valiant efforts, they were left frustrated and deflated at halftime, trailing 5-0.

Undeterred by their opponent's resilience, Sutton Valence maintained their relentless pressure in the second half. Although Jonners had a goal disallowed, the home side continued to dictate proceedings. Lewis capitalised on a rebound from Ali's shot, while Gus displayed composure in a scrambled short corner finish. Slacko widened the chasm with a penalty flick following a stellar tackle by Stampy, before Gus and Clayton sealed the emphatic victory with clinical strikes.

Throughout the match, Sutton Valence's defensive solidity, orchestrated by goalkeeper Stewart Young (who, in spite of 2 desperate attempts, completely failed to touch the ball at all) and anchored by Angus McVarish, Clayton Pohio, and Dan Brooks, thwarted Gore Court's advances. Meanwhile, the midfield trio of Dickie Turnill, Fred McVarish, and Ali Carter orchestrated the team's attacking movements with precision, ably supported by Chris Johnson's industriousness on the right flank. Captained by the stalwart Alex Stamp, the forward line led by Lewis Mitchell exhibited clinical finishing, leaving the visitors hapless.

Notably, man of the match Dan Brooks distinguished himself with a stellar performance, showcasing the form of his career and epitomising Sutton Valence's collective excellence.
