Another win for the 1st Xl….
But a close-run thing!
The Sutton Valence team started strong with Kirkham beating the keeper at the near post, quickly followed by Davies putting another one past the Ashford keeper within the first 5 minutes of the game. Valence were pressing high and attacking well until an Ashford counter got through and resulted in a goal. With just over 10 minutes played, the Ashford defence decided to let Bawden stroll into the D and take the shot that reclaimed the two-goal lead back.
With 10 minutes left in the first half, Valence got a short corner, the routine worked just as planned with Davies managing to daze the keeper allowing Mitchell to get the rebound. Before the half finished, both teams managed to score again, Alex Stamp for Valence, making it 5-2 at half-time to the home team.
Starting the second half, the game seemed decided, when Ashford managed to get a flurry of goals in the first 10 minutes, managing to equal the scores at 5-5. The rest of the half was hard fought with some periods turning into a rather physical game. But with 5 minutes left on the clock, Bawden managed to put away his second goal of the game to put Valence back in the lead.
After a tense last 5 minutes with Young almost taking one for the team, blocking a shot with his box, and Stamp choking on the P-spot with a prime opportunity to double the lead, the game finished with a 6-5 victory for Valence.
