Valence 1st Xl go 3 points clear

K Sports leapfrogged by New Beccs
For the last time in 2018 Sutton Valence 1st Xl took to the field accompanied by several hangovers and the opposition, K Sports. Opening exchanges set the tone for the match with plenty hard hitting challenges. Play moved swiftly from end to end via aerials and several 22 metre drop outs by the K Sports’ keeper.
On the 10th minute Valence suddenly found themselves defending in their own D; unable to clear the ball a goal was conceded, K Sports finding the back of the net in the scramble to clear the ball. 0-1.
Now under pressure to deliver, Marcus Bawden alongside birthday boy Fred McVarish started to control the midfield, allowing the hard running Andy Turnill to charge at the opposition D. The good work resulted in a Valence penalty corner. Clayton Pohiho stepped up to slot home a flick. 1-1. A second short soon followed with Fred McVarish clearing up the rebound, to take Valence into half time 2-1 up.
A quick and aggressive counter attack by Valence early in the second half resulted in a K Sports defender clearing Johnny Walker’s attempt into the keeper and back into his own net; a questionable clearance. 3-1 to Valence. A run of second half near misses from the Valence attacks was ended on the 48th minute with a super strike from the top of the D; favouring his strong side, Kirkham unleashed a 3-iron rocket ball reverberating the back board to conclude the scoring for the day.
At the end of a feisty but fair game, Valence were able to retire to the pub with another win under their belts.
The result places Valence at the top of the table with a 3 point cushion going into the Christmas break.
