2nd Xl lose by just one goal

Ashford go top as Valence let game slip

This game, like next week’s away at Burnt Ash 5th Xl, was between teams fighting for the top spot early in the League programme. In the event it was Ashford who came out on top with three wins out of three, whilst Sutton Valence slipped back to fifth on goal difference with this loss.
This was no crushing defeat, and Valence can bounce back from it, if one or two lessons can be learned. There seemed to be a lack of cohesive play as a team in this game, partly from some loose / inaccurate passing which did not help them keep the pressure on the visitors. Always better to do the shorter direct passes, keeping possession, rather than speculative long balls.
The other area of Valence’s play needing practice is short corners, where failure to have a few well worked alternatives loses potential vital points.
In the end Ashford’s single goal was all that was needed to gain them the points.

Next week Sutton Valence 2nd XI play Burnt Ash 5th Xl away.
