2nd Xl's narrow win just enough
Now second in League
This week saw the 2nds travelling towards the capital to take on Brom Becks minus the Skipper and his
Vice-Captain, Chris Sheldon who was away in Spain, much to everyone’s chagrin. Duties were
passed to the only 2nds member to attend training that week and DT was keen to stamp his new found
authority on the team.
Arriving at the pitch with an average age knocking on for, if not slightly exceeding, 40, the 2nds were confident;
the players were up for the game. Brom Becks brought a team of fathers and their sons, with 4 different
families in the team this week. It was a good mix of experience and young legs and they started well,
working hard, pressing forward and testing the Valence defence. With Chris Sheldon off on half term
vacation, the team had no choice but to release John Edmed up front. Valence worked together well but the
opportunities never managed to be converted and the match went into the break 0-0.
The second half started well for Valence and the old boys stepped up as the young legs of the opposition
seemed to be less spritely. Captain of the Day, Richard Turnill went on a long run from his sweeping role
and somehow he made it into the Brom Becks half stumbling past tackles and winning a free hit. Brett
Angel was quick to see the opportunity and played in Tom Willson, who, keen to make up for hitting the
post earlier, managed to slot it home.
The rest of the match was open and played in the middle of the park with both teams having their share of
possession. Brom Becks won a short with moments to go but some amazing defending broke it down well
and the final whistle sounded.

a better goal average, are at home to Deal 2nd Xl who are currently lying in 12th position.
