2nd Xl win second half, and the game, against Monarchs
Follows losses in previous three games prior to Christmas
First game back after the Christmas Break, so everyone was feeling the lack of fitness, hoping for a good turn out, but only just able to gather 11 Merry Men, whereas TW had plenty of subs. Started slowly, and gradually got worse, passing was poor, tackling was committing too early and TW found gaps in the Valence midfield, and the only thing saving them from several goals was a solid defence and saves from Fin. Inspiring shouts from their 'stand in' Captain, resulted in some improvement, but this only resulted in being able to string a second pass into the play before giving it away to TW again.
TW controlled the first half, putting some good passing play together to cut through our midfield, and score a very nice goal and go 1-0 up, winning the first half.
Half time chat was an important one, with SV needing to calm it all down, look up, and make the passes count and find a SV stick.
In the second half, SV was a different team, putting some great moves together, which caught TW out, allowing SV to drive deeper into their D on several occasions. 10-15 minutes into the 2nd half, lots of ball movement from midfield, found Tom WiIlson at the top of the D collecting the passing ball, then driving through the waiting defence and a reverse stick roll into the bottom right corner, leaving TW in confusion.
25 minutes in, and this time it was a pass from midfield to a waiting Chris Sheldon just outside the top of the D, who had found some rare unmarked space, turned and drove towards the waiting keeper, a
carefully placed lifted shot was initially saved, but it dropped just in front of the keeper, CS seeing the ball was available again, scrabbled to gain control, resulting in the ball being pushed into the goal. SV 2-1 up.
TW nearly managed to level the score, but a controversial save on the line from Dickie Turnill kept SV in the lead. Resulting score SV 2-1 TW, giving SV a well-earned win and a good start to this side of the season, retaining their third position in the Kent Open Premier C League.
