2nd Xl hold League leaders to no-score draw
By Paul Linaker
Stay in 4th position in League
Sutton Valence 2nd XI travelled to Ashford knowing securing 3 points could put them on equal points with the home team, right near the top of the league.
Sutton Valence started the game the better team, creating more opportunities than Ashford. During the half Ashford successfully defended numerous short corners and had two last ditched goal line clearances. Despite the pressure Valence were unable to capitalise and the half ended 0-0. At halftime SV felt they’d had the better possession and were looking to take that momentum into the second half.
Ashford however started the half the better team and applied their own pressure to Sutton Valence, but they were also unable to score. As the half continued both teams had chances, with Valence’s Chris Sheldon coming the closest with the ball passing the outside of the post by a few inches. In the final stages of the game play became more stretched, but both teams failed to convert their chances and the game ended 0-0. A fair result for two teams flying high in the league, although Valence felt they should have scored from the two goal line clearance chances they’d created.
