An unusual off-day for Valence….
Delayed till beyond 17:00 for a PB!!
Sutton Valence won the push back in this late afternoon away game, which set off at a good pace. Within 30 seconds of push-back, Adrian Gander won a free hit in the Old Williamsonians' half, which was taken very quickly into the gap behind the defence, where Rob Cockayne was lurking, unknown to the defenders. He got one-on-one with the keeper, who saved the first shot and made a very quick reaction to save the shot from the rebound.
The first and only goal of the game came mid-way through the first half, when the better of the OW seniors ran through the majority of the Valence team using fancy stick skills more accustomed to someone playing higher, followed by a shot. The shot was saved by Chris Back, but the lifted deflection well tucked in at the near post by one of Old Williamsonians' younger team members.
The first half was battled well by both sides, with little ground being gained, and few attacking opportunities made from either side.
The second half was very similar to the first, again with little sign of either side making much headway. Ultimately Sutton Valence were their own undoing, running too far with the ball, with heads down, missing the obvious and penetrating passes through the Old Wills' defence.
