Sutton Valence 3rd XI arrived at Old Williamsonians to the mist and mirk of a very late afternoon fixture where we should have been in the pub enjoying an England victory over the All Blacks. Alas not to be, a game in the drizzle it was.
So the game started with Sutton Valance in the ascendency moving the ball around nicely and creating chances with good passing and moving off the ball. The inability of Valence to finish things off (again) was punished by Old Wills who scored out of the blue with a breakaway goal. Sutton Valence still looked strong in possession but old wills were more dangerous on the break. Both teams had plenty of chances and then another short corner for Sutton Valence. A good injection from Jonah was drag, yes drag flicked by Darren “Dazzler” Thompson, Boom 1-1!
Sutton Valence upped the intensity in the second half and Dazzler looked dangerous in possession, his best game of the season to date. The defence of Hall, Gander and Blanchard were solid in the second half, despite multiple short corners for Old Wills. Ball magnet Blanchard was a trooper running one, getting hit multiple times.
Excellent passing through the midfield saw Sutton Valance piling on the pressure and eventually a breakthrough. Julian Mills had a shot saved by the keeper and then followed up the rebound to slot home for 2-1. At last Sutton Valance can hit that barn door! 3 weeks of multiple missed chances and finally some goals!
The match ended 2-1 and at last the team got the win they deserved. Great effort from all the team. Well done lads.
