Sutton Valence HC 2nd XI fell just short against Old Willies 5th XI, losing 1–0 in a game that could easily have gone the other way.
The first half was a cagey affair, with Sutton Valence taking a while to settle into their stride. A few early nerves saw possession slip away too easily, but they still managed to carve out a couple of shots and earn three or four short corners. Sadly, these were squandered like free cake at a wedding buffet.

Back on the pitch, the second half saw Sutton Valence pile on the pressure with another flurry of short corners and several goalmouth scrambles that had the crowd holding their breath. But it was Old Willies who broke the deadlock with a swift counterattack, catching the defence off guard and slotting home the only goal of the game.

Despite the result, there were plenty of positives. The team showed grit, energy, and attacking intent throughout. With a bit more composure in front of goal, this one could have ended very differently —and probably should have.
