Match Report: Sittingbourne 1 – 1 Sutton Valence
Sittingbourne hosted Sutton Valence on a windy afternoon, with earlier rain clearing just in time for pushback. The home side came into the fixture in strong form, having won both of their opening two games, while Sutton Valence arrived unbeaten with a win and a draw.
The visitors made the perfect start when Alex Sandberg fired Sutton Valence ahead in the opening minutes, from a well-worked short corner routine, after Rod Harcourt's shot was deftly slotted home on the reverse nestling into the bottom right corner. Despite conceding early, Sittingbourne dominated much of the first half, controlling possession and forcing Sutton Valence to defend deep. The back line held firm, though, keeping the hosts at bay until the break.
The second half saw a more even contest, but Sittingbourne continued to carry a slight edge. Their pressure was rewarded when they equalised through a smartly executed short corner, finished low into the bottom corner.
Sutton Valence looked increasingly dangerous on the counterattack, with Jonah Harcourt coming inches away from restoring the lead after a brilliant strike that hit the side netting late on. Sittingbourne, meanwhile, wasted several clear chances at the back post and then briefly disrupted by an injury when the player went down for cramp.
In the dying moments, Ross produced a superb diving save to deny Sittingbourne a certain winner, securing a hard-earned point for the visitors after a determined defensive display. Led by captain for the day James Abrahams
