The Under 8s and Under 10s mixed hockey teams played in tournaments on the 1st March, their first since before Christmas due to the bad weather.

Under 8s Mixed
The Under 8s team played in the tournament at home against two teams from Canterbury and two from Marden. Valence’s first game started off very well with lots of passing and good defensive play. This resulted in their first goal, scored by Emily Hollingsworth, and a win for the team. The following two games were very hard games against Canterbury and Marden Meddlers. Unfortunately, despite the team’s best efforts, these games were lost 5-0 and 6-0 respectively. In their final game of the tournament they played Marden Quinces. This was a more even game to start with, until breaks made by Matthew Lemmon which resulted in a superb hat trick, with the final score being a 3-0 win.
The Under 8s have all showed great progress in their skills and general play since the beginning of the season and it was good to see them enjoy a fantastic morning of hockey, along with our very supportive parents cheering them on every step of the way. Star of the week was awarded to Matthew Lemmon for his endless running and brilliant goals.
Team: Matthew Lemmon, William Westlake, Olivia Stile, Erinn Thompson-Fahy, Emily Hollingsworth, Fayth Turner, Phoebe Robinson and Luke Edmed
Under 10s Mixed
The Under 10s team played their tournament away at Old Williamsonians’ Club. The teams they played were three teams from BromBecks and two teams from Old Wills. The Sutton Valence side worked tirelessly in all of their games in the tournament but unfortunately today the teams they played were stronger and more experienced.
Sutton Valence played their first game really well and displayed great defensive play. This resulted in a draw against BromBecks, which was a great result. From this point, the Sutton Valence team lost the remainder of their games, however not once did they let this bother them and they all played well as a team and worked hard in defence and had some good breaks with the ball. Special mentions go to Kitty Lane, who worked extremely hard in defence and to Evie Westlake who was the backbone of the team and linked all the play together. Star of the week was awarded to Evie for her tireless effort for the team.
A big thank you was given to all the parents who travelled to Rochester and supported the children through every game.
Team: Ryan Page, Morgan Lee, Evie Westlake, William Vanns, Alfie Poultney, Evelyn McPherson, Kitty Lane and Isabelle Edmed
Thank you to the coaches for today: Andrew Lee and Rob Cockayne for Under 10s and Stuart Edmed for the Under 8s. Thank you to the umpires, Rob Harrison and Hamish Dow.
