Blackheath and Elthamians Hockey Club secured a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Sutton valence Hockley Club in an exciting and closely contested hockey match. Dominating much of the first half, Blackheath made their intentions clear early on, applying relentless pressure and creating multiple scoring opportunities. Their efforts were rewarded midway through the first half when they converted a penalty corner, after a great save from the keeper, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.

Blackheath controlled possession and dictated the pace throughout the first 35 minutes, with crisp passing and strong midfield play that kept Sutton Valence Hockey Club largely on the back foot. Despite several opportunities for sides with Sutton valence keeper (Stewart Young) having to make a number of top saves (earning him the Man of the match award), ensuring Blackheath were unable to extend their lead before halftime.

The second half saw a balanced contest, with both sides increasing their intensity. However, Sutton valence Hockley Club responded quickly, scoring from open play with classy passing and a great finish from the returning Tom Millington, making it 1-1 and setting up a tense finish.

Blackheath scored the late winner, capitalizing on another penalty corner.

Despite late pressure from Sutton valence Hockley Club, Blackheath held firm in defence and saw out the remainder of the match to claim a hard-fought victory. Their clinical finishing from penalty corners proved decisive on the day, while Sutton valence Hockley Club will take heart from an excellent performance.
