University of Kent vs SVHC W1

After a heavy defeat at the hands of Marden last week Sutton Valence were looking to work hard and get a good result against a young looking University of Kent team.

Sutton Valence started strongly after Uni of Kent had push back but were quickly put onto the back foot with some good passing play in the centre of the pitch. Frankie Bavin and Morgan Lee put together some nice link ups whist fighting for possession when Sutton Valance were on the defence. it Took Sutton Valence only 8 minutes to score the 1st goal of the match, Isla Hill slotted in from close range after Nicky Coomansingh had caused chaos with a strong dribble and pass into the D after the ball came off a defenders stick. 1-0 to SV!

Sutton Valence continued in a positive manner but any attacks by Uni of Kent were repelled by the reliable Cath Mills and Captain Claire Edmed in defence and any shots were saved by Indie Beech. after some more good possession by Sutton Valence they scored another goal with a strong strike by Evie Westlake which went into the bottom corner shocking the opposition 2-0 to Valence.

Uni of Kent pushed for a goal with some very good long passing from defence but couldn’t get any telling attacks and the score remained 2-0 at half time.

In the 2nd half the game was more end to end with shots and attacks by both teams again some good running in midfield by Megan Saunders, Morgan Lee and Veteran Liz Skinner with Edmed, Mills and Strydom soaking up most of the attacks by Uni of Kent. at 60 minutes University of Kent got a goal back after a well taken long corner made a loose ball fall to a attackers stick who put the ball past the stranded Valence Keeper to make it 2-1 and an exciting finish to come.

It could have been 3-1 but Erinn Thompson-Fahy couldn’t get a touch on the ball and it went agonisingly wide after getting in a good position on the far post. Uni of Kent tried hard to get an equaliser and came very close in the last few minutes of the game and when they were looking like getting a telling attack converted the final whistle blew and Valence took their 1st win of the season with a great all round performance.
