In a strong 3rd position in the League, Sutton Valence should have taken all 3 points in what turned out to be a dreary 70 mins of hockey against the 9th positioned Gore Court 3rd Xl. The visitors only had two scoring opportunities, one, from a short corner, was saved and the other, a rather soft goal from open play.
Valence on the other hand created better chances but only converted one. In addition to the open play opportunities, the home team won half a dozen short corners, with two being stopped on the line by defenders after the keeper was beaten. They conceded only one.
Gore Court went ahead midway through the first half and Alex Stamp equalised for the home team midway through the second. Debate continued afterwards in the Queen’s Head as to whether his interjection was necessary, and the post-match sausage, chips and beans was the highlight of the day.
