Sutton Valence face Holcombe on a cold and dreary Saturday morning. Holcombe brought a speaker with them to play some tunes. But even that could not lift the spirits in the weather. Instead of music, it was the thought of after match teas that got Sutton valence going.
Holcombe started the match aggressively. The match seemed pretty even, but Holcombe managed to score a goal which was deflected off Charlie Tuckers stick, could have happened to anyone….
The first goal did not break the spirits of Sutton Valence. Holcombe applied the pressure and scored a second goal close to the end of first half.
The second half started as good as the first half ended, with a third goal from Holcombe; This definitely tested Valence’s resilience. But just as the sun peered through the clouds, Alex Hodges scored a goal, giving a glimmer of hope for Sutton Valence.
The first goal was followed by an absolute screamer from Chris Sheldon, and all of the sudden Holcombe were on the ropes. Panic ensued in Holcombe's defence, and a short corner was awarded to Valence.
It would take nerves of steel for any man at this point to step up and try and score an equaliser, Rob Cockayne stood at the top of the D… and it was over in a flash, Holcombe did not see the speed of the ball as it was fired into the back of the net.
Victory for Valence was so close, but after multiple failed attempts to get a man on the post, the game ended 3-3. Good game played by both sides.
