SV 3rd XI continued their good form with an excellent result against run-away league leaders Gore Court. Valence started well and looked the stronger team. However they could not convert this dominance into goals. Gore Court were dangerous on the counter-attack and from a rare foray into the SV half won a penalty corner. The corner was expertly converted, to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Valence persevered though and continued to enjoy the lion’s share of possession. SV forced several penalty corners, but were unable to convert. Into the dying minutes of the game and it appeared SV were going to suffer the injustice of losing a game they had dominated. However this Valence team showed the value of playing til the end. Tom Bartlett beat the Gore Court left back with a neat piece of skill then found Andy Barr in free space at the top of the “D”. Barr’s shot took a wicked deflection from a defenders stick, looped over the goal-keeper, and just crept into the goal under the bar.
There was barely time to restart the game and Valence finally got some justified reward from their afternoon’s efforts.
