Sutton Valence proved a little too strong for Marden in this Wealden derby match. The first-half was a hard fought affair, Valence enjoyed the greater possession, but Russets looked dangerous when given the chance to counter-attack. However with a few minutes left in the half Valence took play into the Marden D with some skilful play by debutant Ben Coil drew the Marden defenders and timed his pass to perfection, finding Andy Barr free at the top of scoring D. Barr rifled his shot into the bottom corner giving the home keeper no chance.
Valence played with greater composure in second period, enjoying the security of their one goal lead. The Marden attacks became more sporadic and the Valence stranglehold tightened. Further goals from Chris Sheldon from a penalty corner and a second for Barr ensured Valence made the short journey home with three points.
The league season is entering the final furlong and Valence find themselves 4th in the table, but with games in hand from previous postponed games. A strong finish could see Valence climb even higher in the table, a top two finish and promotion is still a possibility.
