Foul day, fair result

High flyers Sutton Valence were eager to ride the tide of last week’s victory in this wet weather fixture against Old Willies. A relatively relaxed bubbler of a warm-up saw Johnson narrowly beat Edmed to the Astro (resulting in a starting place for the former). Such underwhelming bluster successfully masked the impending downpour that Old Willies were soon to experience at the tempestuous hands of the village.
Sheldon’s Free Willy-esque dribble (or droplet?) in to the D and Hodges’ log flume-like energy were highlights. As were Tragett’s, Johnson’s, Thompson’s and Hawes-Gatts’s upstream bursts. Goals were sprayed in from Alex Hodges (2), Charlie Tucker (2) and Ed Hawes-Gatt. Such strikes might have led to a metaphorical sodden wet towel being thrown in by the opposition. Old Willies though, with some spirited rivulets of energy from their youngsters, were made of sterner stuff, scoring three goals, leaving us at 5-3 by the final whistle. A fair victory on a foul day.
SVHC were also pleased to sail in to the Queen’s Head with a near full attendance for sausage, beans, chips and a welcomely moist Goachers.

Goals: Hodges (2), Tucker (2), Hawes-Gatt

Players of the Match: The junior fan base in the dugout. Not only hit with the horrific downpour of rain, they also had to wrestle with Sea Captain, Nick Hall’s trademark potty mouth pre match sea shanty of a team talk. Whilst it could have led to choppy waters and a mutiny in the dugout, the junior fan base lashed themselves to the deck, standing strong in the face of such vulgarity. Water works were averted.

Team: Ross Mackay; Nick Hall; Stuart Edmed; Ben Tragett; Charlie Tucker; Alex Hodges; Chris Sheldon; James Abrahams; Ed Hawes-Gatt; Steve Parker; Chris Johnson; Darren Thompson; Duncan Wills.
Umpires: Mark Whitmill; Chris Back.

Match Report: Third Deck Hand Chris Johnson
