SV grind down Gore court in hard fought game

The game against Gore Court was off the back of a poor performance the week before where nothing went to plan. Hoping to get back to winning ways Sutton Valence looked to keep early possession against a normally strong Gore court team. The game start with both side moving the ball well, causing issues for each other, but neither could score. Both side traded short corners with Rob Sharp making some great diving saves to keep SV in the game. The breakthrough eventually came with both Andy Devlin and Chris Sheldon scoring to take SV into half time with a 2-0 advantage. Although in the lead, the game felt like it could be turned upside down at any point as Gore Court had looked dangerous at times, with Rob Sharp keeping SV in it.

The second half started and Gore Court had the early possession, causing the SV defence problems. The pressure eventually led to SV conceding a game after about 15 minutes….. time to regroup and retain some possession… and that’s exactly what the away side did. As the game opened up more and the SV midfield found space to move the ball, while containing any counter attacks from the opposition. Just before a scheduled substitution Andy Baar took the score to 3-1 that gave the team the feeling it was nearly job done with 10 minutes left….. thanks Andy… who was still swift substituted for his efforts!. During the next 10 minutes it was job done with Andy Devlin and Chris Sheldon finding the back of the net once more stretching the lead to 5-1 which is how the game ended. The score line didn’t really reflect how well Gore Court had played in the game, but it was a well-deserved SV victory.

Man of the match goes to Ben Grabbam who had an excellent game as sweeper. He defended well when required, cut out some dangerous passes and distributed well in Midfield creating a solid attacking platform throughout the game.
