Game is never lost until final whistle is blown.

After last week’s 9-0 victory over Cliftonville, Sutton Valence 3rd XI knew Burnt Ash would be more formidable opponents, and with the temperature at a low 5 degrees, it was the coldest start of this season so far.
Sutton Valence were under pressure from the beginning, as Burnt Ash kept possession of the ball for the first 15 minutes, eventually resulting in them scoring to go 1-0 up. Then, still not playing well as a team, Sutton Valence conceded a P flick for a foot on the line which was converted, leaving Valence 2-0 down.
In the final 15 minutes of the first half Sutton Valence started to gel together more as a team, cutting out attempting the long searching balls they had tried earlier, and instead working up the pitch with short sharp passes. This style of play brought its rewards with a well worked goal scored in open play by Pete Posnette, giving Valence a feeling of hope that they were back in the game. On the stroke of halftime Sutton Valence were awarded a short corner and with the whistle blown the team surrounded Burnt Ash’s D for the final play of the half. The ball was pushed back to Chris Sheldon, who shot from distance and scored, making it 2-2 at the half-time break.
The half-time team talk revolved around work rate and passion and of being first to the ball meaning Sutton Valence came out in the second half with a different mind-set, which paid dividends in more possession. For long periods it was now Valence’s turn to camp in the opposition half, causing them issues throughout the half. With just 15 minutes to go Pete Posnette scored his second goal of the game with a brilliant individual effort, proving you don’t need to leather the ball in the back of the net, Pete simply picked his slot and pushed it past the Burnt Ash keeper. Moments later Posnette thought he’d score his hattrick, only for the play to be pulled back after a long discussion between the umpires for an infringement.
As the game entered the final stages, Burnt Ash committed more men forward looking for the equaliser, but were unable to find the killer blow. The game ended with Sutton Valence winning 3-2, after taking the long way round for the victory.
