Sutton Valence 2nd XI hosted mid-table Herne Bay with a slightly weaker team as they’d lost a few players at the last minute to the Valence’s 1st XI. Valence were immediately under pressure, unable to get the ball out of their D and conceded six quick short corners which they managed to defend without conceding. The pressure continued and Herne Bay eventually scored putting them 1 nil up at half time. Although behind Valence were still very much in the game.
Valence started the second half how they should have started the game, seemingly finding some passing form and causing Herne Bay problems from the off. As they found their rhythm so too did the forward line, and they thought they had scored courtesy of Aiden Kingsmill, only for it to be disallowed as he was judged to use the back of his stick on his second attempt to put the ball over the line. It wasn’t long before Tom Willson eventually equalised and although being dominated for a lot of the game, they now had the momentum. Looking for the winner, Sutton Valence were caught on the break and Herne Bay scored a second, and Valence were unable to respond in the final 10 minutes of the game, despite their best efforts.
Again another narrowly lost game, by just a single goal. This leaves the 2nd Xl in 10th place in the League, with a game in hand to be played next week.
Man of the match once again this season goes to Alex Hodges for continued work rate during the whole 70 minutes.
