Sutton Valence 2nd XI travelled to Canterbury, with the hope of picking up 3 points on the road. Travelling with 13 Valence looked to use their substitutes wisely to keep everyone fresh for the full 70 minutes.
The game began like a lot have this season, with Valence under early pressure from the opposition. Although under pressure, there were limited opportunities for Canterbury, until the 15-minute mark, when Valence conceded two quick goals. After conceding, they managed to get more of a handle on the game and started to look the more assured on the ball as the half progressed. With numerous chances and short corners, Valence should have at least pulled one goal back before half time, but went into the break still 2-0 down.
With Valence ending the half the stronger, there were many positives to build on in the second half and a quick start was required. Being a traditionally stronger second half team, SV came out the blocks quickly, so quickly in fact they pulled a goal back with just 1 minute 45 secs from push back, it was just the start they needed. The goal came from Andy Barr, but the build-up started from the defence, and Sutton Valence were back in the game. With more possession in the second half and more short corners than Canterbury, Valence should have at least drawn level with Canterbury, but they were unable to find the finishing touch. The game ended with Valence losing 2-1, feeling like they should have won the game, but retaining their position at 9th in the League.
