On a bright and sunny morning, Sutton Valence team arrived promptly. with supporters in tow, eager to see the return of their talismanic captain, Hall. The match also saw the return, from a self enforced hiatus, of Lee Snr.
Taking charge early on, Hall won the toss. Starting as they meant to go on, or so everyone thought.
The match started with Sutton Valence in ascendancy, controlling the middle and greeting most of the attacks, with Lee and Thompson rolling back the years to glide through the midfield and into the D, ably supported by messrs Edmed, Field and Harcourt.
Unfortunately for Sutton Valance, BBHC did manage the odd attack. Hall, keen to show the forwards how it was done, latched onto a strong pass into the D, and got his stick on the ball, deflecting into the goal for 1-0.
Sutton Valence continued to create opportunities, winning short corners and having shots in open play, and finally one of the short corners was put away. Excellent injecting from Harcourt Jnr, put the ball on Thompsons stick, for him to finish strongly past an otherwise faultless goalkeeper. Sadly it wasn’t going to be Sutton Valence’s day up front and that was the only goal they were to score in the 1st half
A quick break down the other end, saw BBHC win one of only a handful of short corners. Hall, buoyed from his first goal, was standing near the goalie, ready to get a stick on the ball to deflect it past a diving Mackay, to make the score 2-1.
This is how the half ended. The team talk was positive, focusing on where Sutton Valence strengths lay and how they would score goals.
Sutton Valence continued the stronger of the side, creating a lot of opportunities and having a lot of shots and short corners, which on another day would have yielded a double-digit goal tally.
As Sutton Valence pushed for the equaliser, they were caught with a sucker punch goal, to take the score to 1-3. Despite this, Sutton Valence continued to the end, and finally scored a second goal, from good play down the right, finding J Harcourt in the middle of an open goal, to comfortably finish for 2-3.
This is how the match finished, Valence being the most gutted knowing that they were the stronger, more dominate side.
Onto an evening game against Old Wills next Saturday.
