Match Report – Sutton Valence 3s Men’s Hockey
Sutton Valence 3s produced a superb second-half turnaround to claim a hard-fought victory after trailing 1–0 at the break.
The first half proved challenging, with the opposition capitalising on early pressure to take the lead. Despite some promising passages of play, Sutton Valence struggled to find rhythm and space, and went into half-time a goal down.
However, a composed and decisive team talk from Head Coach Carter proved the turning point. Carter reorganised the formation, tightened things up defensively, and reset the mindset of the squad. The impact was immediate.
With renewed structure and energy, Sutton Valence began to dominate possession and find space across the pitch. The equaliser came from sustained pressure and a great short corner routine, and shortly after the team struck again with a quick second goal to complete the turnaround.
The midfield trio of Alex Stanford, Seb, and Stuart Edmed were outstanding, controlling the tempo and linking play superbly throughout the second half. James Aldrich delivered a strong all-round performance, while Ali Robinson also impressed with his work rate and composure.
Out wide, Duncan Field endured a tough afternoon, given little space by a disciplined opposition defence but continued to battle tirelessly. At the back we defended on resolutely, helping to keep the opposition at bay as Sutton Valence protected their lead.
There was concern in the second half when Nick Hall suffered a nasty blood injury. He left the pitch with a split lip and is currently in A&E. The squad send their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Overall, it was a fantastic team performance — built on resilience, tactical discipline, and hard work. A deserved win, and momentum firmly carries into next week’s fixture.
