Canterbury Friars vs SVHC M3

The Sutton Valence 3s delivered a masterclass in one-sided hockey, humbling Canterbury Friars with a ruthless 1-0 demolition at Polo Farm.
From the first whistle, the visitors were in total command, bossing possession like they owned the water-based turf. Wave after wave of red attacks pinned the Friars back, with Sutton Valence carving out chance after chance – yet somehow the scoreboard stayed stubbornly level for three-quarters of the game.
The breakthrough finally arrived on 50 minutes, and what a scruffy, glorious moment it was. A botched or cunningly devious short corner routine turned into comedy gold for the away side when the ball bobbled around the D like a hot potato. Up stepped Rob Cockayne, who gleefully scuffed home a loose ball to send the Sutton Valence faithful wild. It was ugly, it was chaotic – but it counted, and that’s all that mattered in this lopsided affair.
Canterbury? They barely got a sniff. Sutton’s dominance was so complete that their goalkeeper could have popped out for a beer to watch the nearby Kent Fencing championships and returned without missing a beat. He spent 69 minutes twiddling his thumbs, watching his teammates run rings around the home defence.
Then, in the dying embers – bang on the 69th minute – the Friars finally mustered their first shot of the entire match. An impressive effort whistled agonisingly past the post, drawing cheers of relief from the Sutton bench. Too little, far too late.
This was a day when Sutton Valence 3s turned up, turned it on, and turned Canterbury into virtual spectators. The final scoreline hugely flattered the hosts – it could easily have been a cricket score had the visitors been more clinical in front of goal. For Sutton Valence 3, this was a statement win – clinical, controlled, and utterly convincing
