But have played better

Valence travelled to a new venue in Herne Bay to take on their 5th eleven. After the new venue caused an uproar in the group chat on Saturday morning all arrived at the correct venue in plenty of time to start the match.
Valence started the game brightly taking advantage of the space allowed to us by the Herne Bay players and taking the lead following a good passing move finished by Duncan Wills breaking the deadlock within the first five minutes. Valence continued to press on and had by far the better first half of the two sides adding a further two goals firstly through Marius Dreyer and then Rob Cockayne whilst Valence’s own defence was rarely troubled and dealt well with the few Bay attacks.
The team talk focussed on the many positives from the first half and Valence were keen to continue to put pressure on Herne Bay in the search for more goals.
Whatever the Herne Bay captain said at half time clearly worked, as the opposition started to play much better at the start of the second half and even managed to get one goal back as their striker lifted the rebound over Valence’s keeper following a good initial save. Luckily Valence were galvanised by this and stepped their game up continuing to mount attack after attack and adding three further goals courtesy of two Rob Cockayne strikes either side of a second goal from Duncan Wills.
At the end Valence were very happy with the margin of victory but were quick to reflect that they have played better hockey in previous games and could have caused even more damage had they reached these levels.
