Team hold onto 3rd position

Valence 3s welcomed Maidstone 5s on a tropical February Saturday keen to exact revenge for the narrow defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Valence started the game well and put early pressure on Maidstone eventually sneaking into the lead through Rob Cockayne. Maidstone grew into the match and looked dangerous on the counter-attack, especially down their right-hand side. The first half was a fairly even affair and Valence managed to hold onto their 1-0 lead going into the break.
In the second half Valence turned the screw and the floodgates opened. Rob Cockayne added two further goals to his tally before Andrew Lee added a fourth, finishing a move he started himself. Duncan Wills then added two more including a good finish from a tight angle before Adrian Gander rounded the game out with a short corner strike into the bottom right corner with seconds left on the clock.
Valence did well to keep the pressure on Maidstone right until the end and continue to rack up the goals. The midfield made a real difference in the second half, outplaying their Maidstone counterparts and moving the ball all over the pitch stretching the Maidstone defence and helping the attackers cause problems and score so many goals.
