Valence welcomed Sittingbourne (Old Bordenian) on a surprisingly sunny and warm morning. With both of Valence's two subs running late, the starting line-up was easy to decide and Valence dominated the first half with quick movement of the ball and players finding plenty of space in the opposition half. Valence ran riot at times and scored 5 in the first half thanks to Chris Sheldon, Alastair Robinson, Lewis Mitchell and Tom Morgan (2). The highlight of these goals had to be the precision struck reverse stick for Morgan's first goal into the far corner.
To say this was a game of two halves would be very appropriate. Sittingbourne came out for second half with a new resolve and, coupled with a little complacency from Valence, managed to pull 3 goals back leaving the Valence players more than a little bewildered.
The Valence nerves were settled as Robinson added his second restoring a three-goal cushion and allowing Valence to seal the win, although perhaps not as comfortably as it should have been on the first-half performance.
