Sutton Valence Ladies 1st XI (0 – 2) Sittingbourne Ladies 3rd XI.

The 2026/27 Ladies Hockey 6th Division league got underway on the afternoon of Saturday 19th September, with Sutton Valence Ladies 1st XI playing their first league game at home, welcoming Sittingbourne Ladies 3rd XI.

The team were keen to get the season off to a positive start and, from the first whistle, Sutton Valence showed plenty of energy, determination and attacking intent.

Sutton Valence made several strong drives up the pitch, creating a number of opportunities in front of goal. The forwards worked hard to put pressure on the Sittingbourne defence, while the midfield provided some excellent support and movement to help the team progress up the pitch.

Despite creating many shots on goal and earning four short corners, Sutton Valence were unfortunately unable to convert their opportunities into goals.

As the first half drew towards a close, Sittingbourne were awarded a short corner and managed to find the back of the net, leaving Sutton Valence 0–1 down at half-time.

The team came out for the second half determined to get themselves back into the game. Sutton Valence continued to work hard across the pitch, with some good passing and attacking runs creating further opportunities. The defence also worked tirelessly to keep Sittingbourne's attacks under control.

Unfortunately, Sittingbourne Ladies 3rd XI managed to score a second goal during the second half, putting Sutton Valence 0–2 behind.

Despite the scoreline, Sutton Valence continued to battle right through to the final whistle. There were plenty of encouraging passages of play, with the team showing that they have the attacking ability to create chances and put opposition defences under pressure. Converting those chances into goals will be the focus going into the next fixture.

The team were supported by Coach Ali, who came along to watch the game, managed the substitutions and provided plenty of useful feedback and direction throughout the afternoon. His guidance will give the team plenty to work on as they prepare for their next league fixture.

Congratulations to Alice, who was voted 'Player of the Match', for her great defensive work and helping to drive forward at key moments in the match.
