Burnt Ash vs Sutton Valence – Match Report

Sutton Valence travelled to Burnt Ash for an afternoon pushback in what proved to be a competitive and hard-fought encounter.

Both sides began strongly, with defence and midfield combining well to keep the early stages evenly balanced. Midway through the first half, Burnt Ash earned their third short corner of the match. The initial shot was saved and cleared, but Burnt Ash reacted quickest to the rebound and converted to take the lead.

Their second goal also came from a short corner. The Sutton Valence goalkeeper produced an excellent save, only for Burnt Ash players to pounce on the loose ball at the edge of the D and finish clinically.

Sutton Valence responded well and ended the half on the front foot. Persistence paid off when Alex Stanford broke free and rounded the keeper before squaring the ball across goal, allowing Mike Metcalfe to finish neatly at the far post.

Half-time: Burnt Ash 2–1 Sutton Valence

The second half began with Sutton Valence applying early pressure. Their attacking intent was rewarded with a short corner, during which the Burnt Ash keeper smothered the ball on the line from a Ross MacKay effort to award Sutton Valence a Penalty Flick. Mike Metcalfe stepped up confidently and converted the resulting penalty flick to level the score.

With the match now tied, Burnt Ash raised their intensity. A beautifully worked move through midfield split the Sutton Valence defence, allowing Burnt Ash to restore their lead with a well-taken goal. Another short corner soon followed, and Burnt Ash converted at the post despite a desperate defensive effort, extending the score to 4–2.

Sutton Valence refused to give in. Their positive, attacking style was rewarded when Alex Stanford struck powerfully to bring the score back to 4–3 in the closing stages. The final minutes saw Sutton Valence pushing hard for an equaliser, but time ran out before they could find the decisive goal.

While the result favoured Burnt Ash, the scoreline did not fully reflect the teamwork, determination, and quality shown by Sutton Valence throughout a challenging and closely contested match
