Sutton Valence 4’s vs Gore Court 5’s
Gore Court were welcomed to Sutton Valence Senior School on what turned out to be an unusually warm afternoon.
The game started in good spirits, with Sutton Valence making some impressive runs into the Gore Court half and creating early pressure.
Against the run of play, Gore Court broke through the middle and found themselves one-on-one with the Sutton Valence goalkeeper. Dave the Save lived up to his name with an impressive stop to deny the breakaway.
The young backline of Oscar, Alec, Dominic and Vihaan held their line brilliantly and showed great resilience throughout the first half.
The deadlock was finally broken when Gore Court were awarded a short corner shortly before half-time. The initial shot was well saved, but Gore Court reacted quickly to slot home the rebound, making it 0–1 at half-time.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with end-to-end play from both sides. Neither team was able to convert their attacking opportunities, thanks to some determined defending and excellent goalkeeping.
Gore Court eventually added a second goal from open play following a well-worked team move.
A third was added just before the final whistle, with a fortunate effort from the edge of the D finding its way just above the goalkeeper’s left shoulder.
While the 0–3 scoreline may not fully reflect the performance, it is clear that this team is taking a big step forward. The players continue to show tremendous effort, resilience and improvement, and there is plenty to be positive about as the season progresses.
